Tangled Up!

This cuddle afghan is a fun winter project.  You crochet it in squares and then slip stitch the squares together to make the size of afghan you want.  I followed the instructions from one of my favorite blogs  A Farm Wife's Journal.

http://farmwifejournal.blogspot.com/2012_09_01_archive.html

Follow her instructions to start your Afghan.  I deviated from the pattern by using variegated yarn till the square measured four inches.  Then, I connected to the black yarn and crocheted five rounds till the square measured about ten inches.  I then slip stitched the squares together.

I made this cute bear for my niece’s birthday. I used the bear pattern from Lion Brand yarn with a few modifications. Here is the website for the bear pattern:

I have got the crochet bug! These fun finger puppets were fast and easy to crochet. I made seven sets for a “busy bag”exchange. For those of you who don’t know: in a “busy bag” exchange you get a group together where each of you comes up with a fun activity for kids to do that will fit in a bag. My activity was these Old MacDonald finger puppets. The kids can use the puppets to sing the song, or if your kids are like my daughter the puppets became her friends and for an hour she was lost in the wonderful world of make believe!

Here is how I made the puppets.

First, I just used yarn from my stash and tried to think of what animals the yarn could represent. (Hence the black cow, my son really wanted the black yarn to be a cow.)

I used a 5.50mm hook, you can adjust the amount of stitches based on the size of hook you choose. Just remember your first chain needs to be big enough that fingers can fit through.

1. Chain 10

2. Connect the chain by single crocheting in the first crochet you made. This makes a circle. You will now work in a round.

3. Double crochet in each of the crochets around the circle.

4. Connect with first double crochet.

5. Chain 3. Repeat instructions 3-4 twice. This will give you three rows of double crochet.

6. Single crochet in every other crochet until you close the circle. Tie off and pull extra yarn to inside of puppet.

Now you have your basic puppet shape. I used puff paint to paint on the different animal faces. Just make sure the paint dries before you or your little ones start to play.

I made this cute blessing dress for my niece!
It is easier than you think to make up your own dress patterns. I like to use existing clothes or sewing patterns to make my own designs so that I can get the dimensions right. Then, I like to experiment with different crochet stitches and see what I can create. I thought I'd let you know how I made this dress, so you can create on too.
1. Pick out a piece of clothes that is the size you want. I used a baby dress pattern to make the bodice so it would come out the right size.
2. Then using the dress pattern as your guide and single crochet the till the bodice matches your dress pattern (I single crocheted a square first, then added six single crochets in five rows to get my shoulders.)
3. Repeat step 2 to make the back. Then, slip stitch at the side seams.
4. To make the shoulder ruffle, single crocheted around the shoulder opening. Then, skip two single crochets and crochet five double stitches in next single crochet. Repeat this till you've gone around the shoulder opening to create a ruffle sleeve.
5. Now for the skirt. Single crochet around the bottom of the bodice.
6. To create the ruffles Double crochet six times in every third single crochet around the whole bodice.
7. When you reach where you started from chain three in back single crochet from step 5 (you are now making the layer under the ruffle). Double crochet twice in same crochet as chain. *Skip two single crochets and double crochet three times in same single crochet. Repeat from * till you've completed row in the skirt. Repeat step 7 till you have three rows. Then, repeat Step 6. Keep repeating step 6 & 7 till you reach your desired length.
Happy Crocheting!
