ReplyDeleteMy tip is to double check your measurements! But if you don't make sure you have extra fabric! Thanks for a chance to win! :)
ReplyDeleteMy tip is to square up those blocks. It takes extra time but your finished quilt will lay flatter. Thanks for the chance to win some Coats & Clarks thread (my thread of choice).
ReplyDeleteI'm a newbie quilter, but my tip for anyone, not just quilters, is always measure twice, cut once.
ReplyDeleteIf you love fabric - buy 2 yards. If you have to have it, buy three yards. If you like it buy 1 yard - tip of the day:).
ReplyDeleteMy favorite quilting tip is to measure twice before you make that first cut.

Another quilting tip that I like is that mistakes are not mistakes-- they are just "happy accidents".. :-) Thank you for the chance to win! I love thread--- and have never tried the variegated thread-- that was on my Christmas wish list, but Santa didn't bring me any... :-)
ReplyDeleteRichard has it right; never give up...lol I am a new follower..please come visit me and follow if you like
ReplyDeleteNew tip to cut bias blocks. First iron on a 1" strip of fusible interfacing diagonally from corner to corner then cut. Interfacing keeps edge from stretching.
ReplyDeleteMy tip - measure twice (or thrice!) and cut once. ;)
ReplyDeleteLove the blog name, Twirlygirls! Fun!
ReplyDeleteSafety pin a bright ribbon right next to your hand quilting needle on the quilt so you may find where you left off upon your return.
Wow....what a great lot of hints, already!! My hint...when hand sewing ...invisible stitches, mean just that!! Pull those ugly ones showing, right out...or you will always look back and see them glowing!! Thanks for the opportunity to enter.
ReplyDeleteCheers
Gloria
Don't worry about wonky cutting! Wonky is good! Love Coats thread.
ReplyDeleteMy tip is always make extra bobbins before you get started on a project - then you can just pop out the empty and pop in a full one and keep sewing! Thanks for the give away...love varigated thread.
ReplyDeleteTake your time and enjoy the process. Look at every project as a learning experience and don't sweat the small stuff. thanks for a chance.
ReplyDeleteMeasure twice, cut once!!
ReplyDeleteAlways seek advice from your elders
ReplyDeleteMy favorite tip is to keep trying new things and learn from fellow quilters as much as you can.
ReplyDeleteNice Happy Blog. Thanks for offering your prize. My tip is...find a mentor and learn from them.
ReplyDeleteThank you for your blog and the giveaway. My tip is to get a three ring binder and put your quilt pattern copies in it to keep track of future projects (these are freebie patterns that I make copies of from blogs and quilt alongs).
ReplyDeleteMy favorite tip: Measure twice - cut once

Thanks for the lovely giveaway. My tip - Piece with a scant quarter inch seam using a quarter inch quilter's presser foot.
ReplyDeleteI am a new follower..thanks for the generous giveaway...one can never have too much fabric or thread.
ReplyDeleteMy tip is to use a ruler that is accurate and doesn't slip. You really need to have those blocks be the right size.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! You are the winner!
DeleteMy favorite tip is to take your time,a d to corrects things as you go along--fixing a small error now is easier than a huge misalignment later.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on your first giveaway--so far you have a pretty big turnout.
my tip..Relax! and enjoy the process, don't rush through to the finish!

My tip is to enjoy what you do and don't be afraid to try something new. Thanks for the giveaway. Can't ever have enough thread!
ReplyDeleteI use up 'ugly' fabric in string quilts or cut it in small pieces...that way it is hidden overall in the quilt. Also, lesser quality fabrics get used as foundations or linings...I like to use it all up!!!!
ReplyDeleteMy only advice is "your seam ripper is your friend" (I am new to quilting and this is what I have so far)!! Thanks for the chance to win!
ReplyDeleteConcentrate when you are arranging your blocks...and better yet have a friend or two check out your placement- there's nothing worse than having to rip things apart when you THINK you have your quilt top done. Ask me how I know this?
ReplyDeleteHum, my favorite tip is to try to sew everyday!! Thanks for the giveaway!!
ReplyDeleteHi not really a tip but an opinion do not remodel your sewing room cause you dont know how much stuff you gather unto it needs to ALL be moved lol..im in the process n only been quilting for 3 years this month and never realize what all i have lol angchappell@yahoo.com
ReplyDeleteFirst let me say, I can't wait to take the time and read through all the tips.
ReplyDeleteMy quilting tip would be "don't be afraid to try something new". If you see a pattern that you like but are afraid it will be to hard, try to find the "squares" in the pattern to make it simpler.
I love coming across your blog.It has been fun going through. I am semi new to quiliting and sewing my best tip is never quit learning and never give up no matter how confusing or frustrating it may seem it will work outthank-you and good luck all.Becky

Oh, I do love thread. Thanks for this giveaway. I'm a new follower. One of my favorite quilting tips is: Wash your fabric before you quilt. I wash, then iron with some sizing to bring it back to "like new". Bye for now,
ReplyDeleteMy tip-keep your seam ripper handy and use it when things don't come out right.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the giveaway! My favourite tip is to always square up before moving to the next stage. :)
ReplyDeleteAwesome giveaway! My tip is to always lay everything you need out ahead of time! Otherwise things will get lost and cluttered fast!
ReplyDeletejaragabrielle1018@gmail.com
Always make sure your 1/4" seam allowance is accurate. Good luck with your blog! Thanks for the chance to win!
ReplyDeleteI love using Best Press on EVERYTHING. It makes and keeps pieces so nice and flat.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your first giveaway. My tip is... The Quilting Police do NOT exist, they are just a rumor. So don't sweat the small stuff, however, if something bothers you, fix it. Otherwise it will always bug you. When starting a project use the same rulers and machines, sometimes they differ just enough to throw you. Try to be constitent with a 1/4" seam allowance. Like it has been mentioned, measure twice, cut once. Take classes and always keep learning. I often learn from other classmates as well as the teacher. Learn from the elders and then pass it on to someone else just starting. It should always be fun, if it's not, take a break.
ReplyDeleteThank you for your giveaway and a chance to win. Been nice to read the other tips as well. I'm a new follower and looking forward to returning and catching up with your blog.
