Make your own Easter Basket!

These are fun Easter basket for kids to make.  The girls I worked with ages 8 to 11 had a lot of fun creating their own unique Easter basket.

To start choose two different colors of 12x12 card stock.  Fold one of the cardstock pieces in half and mark one inch lines with a pencil across the paper.

Next cut your lines starting on the folded side.  Do not cut all the way to the end stop about half inch from the edge.  Un fold the cardstock.  This is the base for your weave.

Out of the remaining cardstock cut one inch pieces.

Next, weave the pieces over under over under all the way across the cardstock with your cut lines.  Use the next strip of cardstock and this time weave the opposite from the time before which will be under over under over.

Repeat this till the cut piece of cardstock is totally woven.  You might need to trim your last strip down to fit the cardstock.  Don’t try to force a too big strip through because it your cardstock will rip.  If that happens you can just use some tape to repair the damage.

Now staple all your lose ends together.  Make sure you are stapling in one direction so that the back of the staple faces the outside of the basket, because we are going to cover that up with a strip of paper so little hands won’t get scratched when reaching into the basket.

Now, fold the four corners matching points about four inches to create the basket shape.

Unfold the basket and you should have a bowl type shape.

Next, fold in the corners on one side and staple.  Repeat this step with the other side of the basket.

Use one of your extra strips of cardstock to staple on as a handle.

Lastly you can use two extra strips of cardstock or pick out a pretty piece of paper that is one to one and half inch thick to wrap around the basket covering the staples.  I simply glued two strips together and then wrapped it around the basket and place a piece of tape to hold it together.  You could use glue or another staple.

Enjoy your new basket!

Bunny Easter Egg Holders!

I remember waking up one Easter morning at my grandma’s house to find this cute bunny in my Easter basket.  I have always loved my Easter bunny.  So, when my kids were asked to participate in a charity bazaar around Easter time, I thought it would be fun to recreate this bunny and fill the Easter egg with candy!  I took my kids to the local fabric store and let them pick out Polar fleece in their favorite patterns.   I bought a ¼ of a yard off of each bolt.

I then cut the fleece into rectangles 10” x 12”.  You can make your rectangle smaller of bigger if you want a big or little bunny.

Next, with right side facing down,  I roledl one corner of the fabric to the middle.

Then, I turned the fabric and repeated with the other corner.
Next, I brought both ends together and  pinched the sides about two inches from the end of the fabric.  This will made the ears.

Then, I folded back the fabric about a quarter of the way.  This created the face.

Using a rubber band, I put it around the fabric to hold the face and ears in place.

Next it was fun to make the face.  With glue I add google eyes, a small pom pom nose and tied a ribbon around the rubber band.

For a boy bunny I tied the bow on the bottom of the bunny.

For a girl bunny  I tied the ribbon on top.

Lastly, I added a cute medium size pom pom  on the back for a tail and filled a plastic egg with candy placing it in the back of the bunny.

My kids loved making these bunnies and already want to make some more!
